Location and hierarchy
Menghai County lies west of the Lancang River and includes multiple mountain, basin and border environments. Famous village names sit inside larger township and mountain systems rather than floating as independent brands.
Why this origin matters
The county connects field origin with industrial history. Modern Pu'er knowledge therefore needs two maps: one for gardens and villages, another for factories, recipes, fermentation and storage.
How to read the market name
Separate 'material from Menghai County', 'processed in Menghai' and 'Menghai-style ripe tea'. Those statements may overlap, but they do not mean the same thing.
Practical guidance
For every Menghai tea, record both a source line and a manufacturing line. For blends, ask for the declared composition instead of forcing a single-mountain story.
Identification and caution
County or factory reputation cannot replace current-batch hygiene, storage and traceability.
